Hi everyone, today i am going to be talking about self worth. Have you ever looked in the mirror and not been happy with what was looking back at you? If you have, It is probably because you don’t have self worth. But i want you to have self worth, I want you to like what you see in the mirror. Self worth is a challenging but beautiful thing, and hopefully by sharing what i have written today, it can help at least one of you.
Let’s start with making sure you understand it will take time. Self worth will not just happen over night, Self worth is like a muscle, That you must keep working out and using in order for it to gain strength. It is also not something that can just happen on it’s own, It will take time and effort that you must be willing to put in.
A big part of having self worth is not being hard on yourself for things that you can not control. For example things like body type, eye colour and face shape, these are things that we can not change but we must learn to accept. A strategy that you can use to help build self worth is embracing your natural features, Some different ways you can do this is, go out with your hair natural, Wear an outfit you’ve always been too scared to, Don’t wear that hat that covers your acne, Because by doing these things, you are embracing things you can not change.
Self comparison. An important aspect of self worth is not having the need to compare yourself to others. Someone may have the most gorgeous hair, but that does not mean you don’t. We need to be able to admire others beauty without feeling as though we have none of our own. The next time you see someone beautiful, I want you to try going to your mirror and saying something you think is beautiful about yourself, to yourself. Different things you could say are, I have beautiful brown eyes, I love my smile, I love my gorgeous hair.
Self deprecation. What is self deprecation? It is criticism towards yourself. I’m sure you guys have all been in the situation where someone has complimented you and you have been unable to accept the compliment. That is self depreciation. The next time someone compliments you, accept it, because the more you accept the nice things people say about you, the more you will believe it. A way that can help you believe all these good things about yourself is by placing them around you. What i mean by this is don’t be afraid to put positive words about yourself on things like your mirror. I’m not telling you that you have to do this, but go home tonight and write down at least one post stick note saying something you love about yourself. That way, every time you look in your mirror, you will be reminded how worthy you really are.
So to finish this speech i am going to ask if the next time you come across a mirror, you stop and take a minute out of your day to say something good about yourself. I know it sounds weird but taking the time to say something as small as “I liked the way my hair looked today” or, “I like the way i care for others” , over time it will make such a big difference to the way you see yourself. Being able to see your self worth will have such a positive impact on your life. It will give you the confidence to be yourself without caring what others think. You will be able to look in the mirror, and feel happy and content with what you see. I believe everyone deserves to feel love for themselves, and i hope these couple of steps have made you believe that too.
